YOUR BIG THREE IN ASTROLOGY
In astrology, the Sun, the Moon, and the Rising Sign are sometimes referred to as the big three. It’s possible to have all3 of these in the same sign like when a person says, “I’m a triple Leo” or Scorpio or Taurus...that means the Sun, Moon and rising sign are all in Leo.
WHAT ARE MY BIG 3 iN ASTROLOGY?
The Sun, the Moon, and the Rising Sign move independently at different rates. From Earth’s point of view, the Sun takes one year to go through all 12 signs of the zodiac, the Moon takes one month to go through all 12 signs, and the rising signs go through all 12 signs in one day!
To calculate the Ascendant, astrologers map the planets against the horizon at the time of someone’s birth. The Rising Sign is the zodiac sign that is appearing on the eastern horizon at any given moment. The earth rotates once every 24 hours so it appears that each and every one of the 12 signs “rises” every single day.
WHAT DOES MY BIG 3 MEAN FOR ME?
The way we can think of the importance of our Sun, Moon, and Rising signs, is the faster the movement, the more intimate or personal to us the energy of the sign each of those bodies occupies.
THE SUN ☉
The Sun is the center of who we are..our “Soul”..it’s what drives us…It’s where we hold our Light.
THE MOON ☽
The Moon is how that light is reflected in our feelings, how we nurture ourselves, find comfort, and respond to our environments.
ASCENDANT ↑
The ascendant, also called the Rising Sign is not who we are, it’s not how we feel, the rising sign is how the light is expressed into the environment. It’s our “persona” in the outer world...it’s how we appear to others..once people get to know us, they start to see our Sun sign or Moon sign. It’s also our physical characteristics..it’s literally our body!
HOW THE SUN, MOON AND ASC WORK TOGETHER
How our self/Sun and feelings/Moon are ultimately expressed are through our Rising Sign. The Rising Sign is also how the outside gets in and is like the doorway to our soul.
The Rising Sign is a very important part of your personality, your identity, and your birth chart as it is the sign that was literally rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth it’s our “surface” self...which doesn’t diminish its importance that is the doorway to letting our Sun sign’s light shine through us...it’s the portal to how our feelings are expressed.
The Ascendant is literally the front door to our chart. It’s our physical body and our personality..it represents how we interact with our world, other people.
In short, the Sun is when we are being true to ourselves, the Moon when we are looking for our emotional needs being met, and the Ascendant is our interface to the rest of the world!
